Your roadmap to postpartum well-being

  • Is usually within the first two to four weeks after birth although some babies may be born with it. Neonatal acne is a common and harmless rash. If it develops after 6 weeks or you are concerned please consult a medical professional. 

  • is crusty or oily scaly patches on the baby's scalp. It is very common and harmless. To remove it gently massage baby oil or petroleum jelly into your baby' head to loosen the scales. Use a soft brittle baby brush to remove the scales. Do not pick them off. Wash your baby's head with a mild baby shampoo. 

  • is a yellowish discolouration that can occur in the whites of the eyes and on the skin in a newborn baby due to high bilirubin levels. Please contact your health care provider if your baby has any symptoms.

Bathing 

Bathtime for your baby can be a nice time for bonding. A smooth bathing experience is always to be prepared for the bath before the baby is undressed. You should have everything ready for example towels, change of clothes, clean diaper etc. always check the water temperature with your elbow or bath thermometer. 

Feeding

whether you choose to breastfeed or bottle feed the most important factor is ensuring your baby is well nourished and to do what There is no right or wrong choice. Ultimately the best choice is the one that works best for your baby's health and your families well-being. 

Baby Hunger Cues 

Will often happen before a baby will cry for food. Some examples are putting hand to mouth, sucking motions, and mouth movements. If you miss early cues your baby may become agitated. Responding to early baby hunger cues helps prevent your baby from becoming upset and makes for an easier feed. 

Bonding 

Bonding with your new baby is incredible. Skin on skin contact is an amazing way to do this. It benefits both babies and parents. Some other examples are singing, making eye contact, responding to cues, baby massage and cuddling. Remember you can't spoil a baby.
